I play the accordion in a band, The Repulsives.
We play different kinds of music: tango, jazz manouche, jazz standards, bossa nova, French Chanson.
For my musical about the Hong Kong democracy movement, I’m writing songs inspired by my friends’ real-life stories.
"The Ice Cream Song" tells the true story of how, at the height of mass protests in 2019, a Hong Kong ice cream shop not only gave free gelato to teenaged "frontliners" but also supplied them with free gas masks and helmets. The shop owner took such care of these young people that when some of them were arrested, their one phone call was to the shop.
“Dear Mom and Dad, I’m Sorry I Died ” is a song based on a real will written by a 17-year-old girl the night before she thought she might be killed by the police.
